Exercise and Diabetes

Exercise plays a big role in helping to control diabetes, in particular type 2 diabetes. The main reason for this is that it makes it easier to control your blood glucose (blood sugar) levels. People with type 2 diabetes have too much glucose in their blood and regular exercise will allow the muscles to use the excess glucose whether you are insulin resistant or not.

People with type 2 diabetes are susceptible to developing blocked arteries. However, regular exercise will help to improve and maintain a strong and healthy heart muscle which will dramatically reduce the risk of heart disease.

Along with a lowered risk of heart disease, there are also many other health benefits including:

  • Exercise helps to lower blood pressure
  • It helps to better control and increase weight loss
  • It increases the level of good cholesterol (HDL)
  • Exercise helps to strengthen bones
  • It increases energy levels
  • And much, much more…

With a healthy nutrition plan as well as regular exercise you will be able to reduce and potentially remove your diabetic medication. Along with the many other benefits of exercising, this is a great reason to make it a regular part of your lifestyle.
